In celebration of Waste and Recycling Workers Week, GRC is highlighting our hometown recycling heroes! Meet your hometown heroes, Evan, Joey, and Linda! We asked Georgians to nominate their favorite recycling workers; here are excerpts from several of the responses. Linda from Rome sent us this message about Evan R.: "Evan started his small compost and recycling company with a heart for the community." Linda also added, "He is in the process of expanding his service to more non-profits in the community. One of the coolest things he has undertaken is collection of coffee pods, demonstrating that 89.7% of the pods are recyclable or compostable, and the remaining 10.3% can be used for seed starters and other creative reuses."Karen from Decatur sent us this message: "Meredith has been our faithful community recycling/trash volunteer for some time. She reminds us via email with photos of things that do and do not belong in the recycle or trash bins. She warns us with emails when the bins are full so that we don't overfill them and cause a mess when they are emptied. Today she forwarded the county's recycling/trash brochure to everyone, so we could all print them out for reference."Our friends in Dalton sent us this message they received from a citizen thanking Joey, one of their recycling workers: "I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible work you do as a recycling worker. Your dedication to keeping our community clean and sustainable does not go unnoticed. Your efforts make a significant difference in our environment, and I deeply appreciate your commitment and hard work. Thank you for being a true steward of our planet and for the positive impact you have on our daily lives."Join us in thanking these workers! Leave a thank you message in the comments below and don't forget to share so others will learn more about their story! ♻️👏#WRWWGRC2024 #WasteRecyclingWorkersWeek #thankyou

Meet today's superhero from Oconee County: Charlotte ConnellCharlotte joined Oconee County almost 10 years ago after working 25 years in finance. She is extremely passionate about recycling and shares that each day along with her bookkeeping skills. Charlotte said that people sometimes assume that site attendants are dumb just because they work in the waste business. Charlotte definitely does not agree and neither do we! Maybe if they knew she was a dirt track race car driver in the 80’s they’d rethink that opinion! Join us in thanking Charlotte, our fearless recycling hero, for her dedication to protecting the environment. In celebration of Waste and Recycling Workers Week, GRC is highlighting our hometown recycling heroes! Meet today's super heroes from Dalton-Whitfield Solid Waste Authority: Crystal Ridley, Alan Asbury, and Susan Richmond-Brown. Crystal has worked for the Dalton-Whitfield Solid Waste Authority for 3 years as a Scale Operator. Crystal provides exceptional customer service to everyone that visits the facility. When asked about how she handles customers, she said “customers aren’t ever going to leave here mad.” When she isn’t at work, she likes to spend time with her mother, baking, going to the beach, or shopping. Crystal has been married for 26 years to her husband Kerry and has one son. Her son loves to play music, and Crystal loves joining him and singing praise songs together. Alan has worked for the Dalton-Whitfield Solid Waste Authority for 2 years as a Transfer Station Attendant. His supervisor commented, “If you want to know how good a job Alan does, just look in the cardboard bin. It’s incredible. He does a tremendous job. He’s outstanding.” When asked what he wishes other people knew about his job, he said he wishes people knew he “does more than just sit” and watch people bring their waste and recycling in. Susan has worked for the Dalton-Whitfield Solid Waste Authority since 2016 as a Scale Operator. The oddest thing she’s seen come across the scales has been a loose pile of clothes towering more than 10 feet on a flatbed. She is married and has a son and a daughter. When she isn’t at work you can find her spending time with her kids or cooking; her favorite meal to make is cream of chicken and wild rice soup! When asked what she wishes other people knew about her job, she said “It is busy, very busy. There is very little downtime from when we open to when we close.” Join us in thanking the team from Dalton for their dedication in protecting the environment. Leave a thank you message for them in the comments below and don't forget to share so others will learn more about their story! ♻️👏 #WRWWGRC2024 #WasteRecyclingWorkersWeek @daltonwhitfield #inspiration #thankyou

Buying Dad a new grill? How about a new drill? Here a few tips to recycle right this Father's Day:If you are replacing an old grill, contact your waste hauler or local solid waste department to schedule a bulky item pick-up for the old grill or find the nearest location to drop-off the grill.Buying Dad a new drill? Don't toss rechargeable batteries in the trash or with the recycling. Make Dad proud and take used rechargeable batteries to the nearest drop location. Find the nearest recycling site at https://lnkd.in/ed5ys6zReplacing Dad's phone or computer? Don't place the old phone or computer in the trash or in with your recyclables. These items can create a fire hazard in the truck, at the recycling center, or at the landfill. Take the items to your nearest drop-off location for electronics recycling, or check with the business where you purchase the new item to see if they take back old devices for recycling.Happy Father's Day!#batteryrecycling #recyclerightga #fathersdayrecycling
